Q) Where is the furniture constructed?

Kate Madison specializes in French Country Furniture inspired by 19th century designs. Each item is hand-built and finished by our cabinetmakers and finishers in a North American workshop.

Q) What is the furniture made of?

We use 100% solid wood. Kate Madison never any plywood, MDF, or veneers. The majority of pieces are constructed of solid wood pine but we also use birch, maple and ash depending on application. Chairs are made with a mixture of hardwood Maple, Ash, and Beechwood. Table legs, turned bases are made of hardwood, Maple. All furniture backs are solid wood tongue and groove "shiplap" boards.

Q) How is the furniture finished?

Kate Madison furniture pieces are finished using low-VOC Milk Paints and stains—in the traditional ways French, American, English and Country antique furniture were finished. Each item is then lightly distressed to highlight the moldings, edging and adding dimension to the finish. Our finishers use is a liquid-base milk paint that is considered a better quality than powder milk paints. We use water-based stains on all tops and interiors of all items unless otherwide instructed. All tops are water-sealed and waxed to prevent water rings, and for everyday-use.

Kate Madison.com is headquartered in Kennebunkport, Maine. We work with customers throughout the US and Canada. Q) Can a piece of furniture be customized?

Q) How is my item shipped?

Kate Madison works with high-end White Glove Delivery Services that specialize in transporting specialty furniture. Each piece is pad-wrapped, and hand-carried (never lifted by fork lifts or machinery) to avoid damages that may occur when shipping using traditional freight methods. All items are delivered inside your home to your desired location. Any items needing assembly will be put together by delivery personnel.

Q) What is the cost to ship my item(s)?

The cost to ship an item is a Flat Rate of $199, whether ordering one piece or multiple items. For that reason, it's most cost effective to order multiple items at once. Kate Madison does not profit on shipping/handling, the charges are simply the cost to get the item to you in top condition.

Q) I’m redesigning a room, can I get pieces to match?

Q) How long will it take to receive my purchases?

Most of our merchandise is to order and hand-finished by a craftsperson. We take special care to make sure each item is made right. For this reason, an order takes about 4 to 5 weeks to fulfill, the ordered items are then passed off to our delivery company, and scheduled for transport to arrive at your home. Order delivery timeframes are generally 8-10 weeks. If you need an order expedited, please contact us or call (800) 931-5283, and we will do our best to accommodate your requests.

Q) What if an item arrives damaged?

Upon arrival, every item should be inspected for damage. In the rare event that an item is damaged during shipping, the delivery service will ship the item back to us at no cost to you. We will then repair or replace the item. The trucking company may leave the item behind for you to use while we make a replacement item. We will then swap out the new piece for the damaged piece.

Q) What if I don’t like the item purchased?

Unfortunately, returns or exchanges are available for only those items that have a defective quality issue. We stand by our furniture, if you are not pleased with an item please contact us as soon as possible so that we may determine the issue. There is a restocking fee of 35% for items returned. We regret that shipping charges cannot be refunded. Any custom-built items, or custom finishes, cannot be returned. Customer service can be reached at (800) 931-5283.

Q) Do you have retail locations?

No, Kate Madison is an online furniture retailer that works with customers nationwide. We focus our efforts and energy in building and servicing our broad nationwide customer base, for that reason we do not have retail locations. In efforts to create the best online customer service, we are happy to provide you with additional photos, and expert advice if needed during the decision process. Q) Do you work with designers/trade?
